Al-Mermah in Upper Egypt – 2026
Al-Mermah is an authentic folk heritage and a collective equestrian sport passed down through generations in the villages and towns of Upper Egypt. Tribal knights gather in wide arenas to showcase their horseback riding skills and compete in speed races to the rhythms of the traditional Mizmar and drums.
Held during major religious and social occasions—such as the (Mawlid), shrines‘ festivals, —Al-Mormah embodies ancient Arabic heritage and chivalry while serving as a meaningful way to strengthen social bonds and connection between families.
